The magic of the Olympics truly cannot be understated. Athletes from all over the world train their whole life for one round, one race, one competition, and we as fans are lucky enough to be witness to it. In our eyes, Olympians are larger than life icons of sporting perfection. The problem is, they’re not compensated like this.
Athletes aren’t paid to be at the Olympics and, at least on the U.S. team, they only get a bonus if they win a medal. Although some get stipends, most have to work part-time jobs and fundraise to continue their training. While they are the main attraction of Team USA, only 8% of the United States Olympic Committee budget actually makes it to the athletes.
To make up for this, many athletes rely on marketing deals and sponsorships. This is where we know we can help. As the Marketplace for Athlete Marketing, we at MarketPryce empower hundreds of athletes to connect with hundreds of brands. Athletes can find Campaigns that brands are running, apply to them, message back and forth with the brand, close the deal, and get paid.
For the months leading up to this summer’s Olympics in Tokyo, we’re offering free membership to any athlete planning on competing. No commission taken. No membership fee required. We hope this will shine a light on how underpaid some of our most cherished athletes are, but also help them make back this money through marketing deals that can turn into long-lasting partnerships.
